The release process
If the member begins the release
Landlord or agent begins process
Having discussed the deposit return with your landlord or agent, they begin the release process through their mydeposits Jersey online account.
You respond to release request
We notify you of the proposed release request.
You will need to confirm your contact details and provide payment details.
You then ‘agree’ with the release request or ‘disagree’ if necessary.
You have 14 working days to respond once you have been notified.
End of release
If you ‘agree’ with the landlord or agent’s release request, the deposit will be returned to the relevant parties within five working days.
If you ‘disagree’, you can raise a dispute to resolve the issue. Find out more about the dispute process here.
If you begin the release

Having discussed the deposit return with the landlord or agent, you begin the release process through your mydeposits Jersey online account.
You will need to confirm your contact details and provide payment details.
Landlord or agent member responds to release request
The landlord or agent will ‘agree’ or ‘disagree’ with your release request. They may ask to keep some, or all of your deposit to cover things like cleaning or damage.
They have 14 working days to respond to your release request.
End of release
If the landlord or agent ‘agrees’ with your release request, the deposit will be returned to the relevant parties within five working days.
If they ‘disagree’, you will be notified of their counter proposal which you will need to ‘agree’ or ‘disagree’ with and raise a dispute to resolve the issue, if necessary. Find out more about the dispute process here.

What happens if no one responds to a release request?
If we do not hear from you or the landlord or agent (depending on who started the deposit release process) within 14 working days of the process beginning, we will return the deposit in line with the terms proposed in the release request.
